Technology overview: Performance Friction
[ CLICK HERE FOR APPLICATION GUIDE ] The System... The caliper, disc and pads work as a system: dynamically affecting bite, torque, release, and in the end, lap times. Performance Friction's improvement in pad and disc technology transferred to improvements in caliper design, resulting in exceptional speed and reliability. Since it was introduced in 2003, professional race teams have seen tremendous success running the Performance Friction package of caliper, disc and pads. The Secret is... no single attribute makes us the best - every attribute of every key component is engineered to work together as a system to give drivers Longer Life, Unrivaled Reliability, Superior Control, Lowest Lap Times Caliper Technology Monobloc FEA Design reduces caliper deflection for less pedal travel and improved response Short Aspect Ratio 4-Piston Design for a stiffer caliper body, which reduces drag and temperature as well as improving release and control over 6-piston designs High Temperature Aluminium Alloy for stiffness and improved pedal feel at the highest temperatures Electroless Nickel Coating for durability Abutment Design for optimized torque takeout, which improves release and control Patented Piston Cap Design reduces fluid temperature by 55 degrees C (100 degrees F) High Tension Seals for proper piston rollback, which reduces drag and improves consistency Bleeder Design protects against thread and seat damage Integrated Bleeder and Bridge Pipe Guards Disc Technology With over 7 years of design research and metallurgical development, Performance Friction was awarded 3 separate patents for our computer vision based machining process, full floating Direct Drive(tm) attachment system, and advanced slot pattern. Since first hitting the track in 1998, PFC race discs have won more major championships than any other race disc on the market. Ask any professional racer and you'll learn about the numerous benefits of Performance Friction disc technology. Being the leading disc manufacturer for all professional race series has its benefits. Racing is the ultimate test of disc design, durability and functionality. Our research and development for racing is directly related to how we manufacture our line of disc brake rotors for passenger cars, trucks, fleet vehicles and sports cars. A combination of breakthrough proprietary technologies reduces vibration, eliminates noise and enhances rotor life. Disc Specifications Patented slot pattern for more bite, improved release, more efficient pad cleaning and improved thermal stability [36 slots] Patented dimple design for street applications gives quieter performance, while still maintaining the bite, release, pad cleaning and thermal stability characteristics of our slot pattern disc High Carbon Alloy with copper and molybdenum for high temperature strength and crack resistance Aircraft quality heat treatment for micro structure alignment and durability Runout less than .0005 inches and thickness variation less than .0002 inches reduces Judder and Pulsation Vanes turned OD and ID for balance to reduce thermal warping and vibration 47 or more vanes for superior thermal capacity Surface finish less than .7 microns 100% measured and inspected to meet strict tolerance specifications Two Piece Direct Drive Patented Disc Technology explained Ever since the disc brake was invented, vibration and pulsation caused by thermal explansion (warped rotors) has been a major issue. UNTIL NOW... With Performance Friction's two piece floating Direct Drive V1disc, the disc flange floats in the bobbin structure allowing radial and axial expansion of the disc without being constrained by the hub or the hat. The benefits of this system include: more efficient torque takeout eliminates vibration and pulsation reduces piston knock-back improves control and release reduces heat transfer to hub assembly reduces drag and increases fuel mileage reusable hat/hub assembly longer life and lower cost per kilometre AND NOW ... there's Direct Drive V2 The Result is ... Performance Friction Brakes outperforms the competition by more efficiently distributing heat for lower lap times, longer life and improved driver control Pad Technology Performance Friction pads provide the stopping power, extended wear, noise reduction and driver control you want. Carbon Metallic® pad compounds give you the optimum performance combination, the ultimate in stopping power and fade-free performance. The metallic elements in our pad material dramatically improve braking. Carbon provides stability at elevated temperatures, making the pad less likely to deform and deteriorate. All our pads are made to withstand the hottest temperatures, ranging between 300 degrees C and 800 degrees C. The secret to our noise reduction is Performance Friction's Multi-Layer Technology. Each layer reduces brake noise by absorbing specific ranges of sound frequencies. Layer 1 Vehicle specific formulated friction materials - this means exceptional stopping power over a longer performance life. Layer 2 Enhanced material technology - exclusive underlayment - this means it isolates, dampens and reduces noise. Layer 3 Exclusive Iconic Fusion bonding technology - provides the highest plate shear strength available for dependable braking under severe conditions and it prevents delaminating. Quality Steel Statistically controlled plates to ensure proper fit. Visco-Elastic Shims Multi-layer, noise insulating Visco-Elastic shims are the final barrier to noise and vibration. Patented Graphite Enhanced Powder Coating Prevents steel plate corrosion and gives pad a longer life.
