2008 marks the first vintage of Flux. This inaugural wine is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, (often spelled Carignane in the US - which do you prefer, MH?) and Petite Sirah. Emanating from the glass is a deep perfume of roasted black cherry, brambly mountain berry, dried flower, orange peel, tobacco, oak and suede. The full-bodied palate is dense with rich notes of dark sweet fruit and chocolate framed against a wall of integrated tannins. Enjoy this wine over the next 10 years.
Flux is made from a blend of
grapes that will fluctuate slightly from vintage-to-vintage of Grenache, Syrah,
Carignan and Petite Sirah. The style of
Flux is meant to emulate wines from the South of France, but with a California interpretation—where the intentions are to make fruit
forward, balanced, yet concentrated wines that are not overly masked with new
oak. Mark Herold Winemaker
