2008 Failla Chardonnay Keefer Ranch RRV
93pts(WA) More tropical fruit, marmalade, nectarine, and orange blossom
characteristics are found in the concentrated 2008 Chardonnay Keefer
Ranch. Even better than its 2007 counterpart, it is a very long wine
with zesty acidity as well as freshness that should provide pleasure
over the next 4-6 years.
Ehren Jordan’s yields in 2008 were
one-half of normal, primarily due to the frost and poor flowering.
Consequently, the level of concentration in some of his wines is
slightly higher than normal. Jordan is a Francophile, and his impressive
resume includes being one of the masterminds behind the Turley
Zinfandels. He is all about natural winemaking, securing top terroirs,
and putting into the bottle the essence of what the grape and the site
have produced. Robert parker Wine Advocate # 187 Feb 2010
Winery Notes: Choosing
fruit from cool-climate vineyards is risky in a normal vintage with
the threat of frost and the chase for ripeness; but we stand by our
conviction that it optimizes the expression of our Burgundian
varietals such as Chardonnay by sustaining crisp acidity. This
year’s frost took a heavy toll on yields. What little remained
had an easier time maturing at its leisure and was whole-cluster
pressed directly into one-third new French oak barrels. Diverse
aromatics of hazelnut, clove, and just-ripe stone fruit mingle
together as an introduction to the rich, textured mouthfeel balanced
by bright acidity and a flinty finish.
