Grenache blanc is a sun-loving grape, well adapted to the dry, bright Salinas Valley climat, needing nothing more than compassionate understanding of its quasi-Ugly Duckling status. Often used as a blending grape in the southern Rhône, here it stands alone as a single varietal—or rather as a happy marriage of grapes from the Ca’ del Solo and Beeswax vineyards, which have been blended into a single, resonant whole.
Pour this wine into a glass and hold it to the light; notice how its beautiful straw gold color is tinged with a faint pink cast. As you swirl your glass the wine will release aromas of tropical fruits: pineapple, guava, and citrus, with the faint dustiness of melon and ripe peach. Medium-bodied, it offers flavors of citrus, almond, honey and green melon. Lush, sensual, and a bit more lavish than the ’08 vintage, the wine is grounded by a brilliant minerality and citrusy acidity that keeps it in balance.
