Our Muscat is not like any other for it is a Moscato Giallo or "Yellow Muscat." Traditionally found in the Alto-Adige region of Northeast Italy, this rare variation on the Muscat theme has a slightly different floral aspect than the more ubiquitous Muscat Blanc au petits grains (aka Moscato Bianco) - still lots of lavender and white flower, it possesses a certain discreet herbal aspect that prevents it from being “too pretty.” Charmingly perfumed and delicate, ours is a wine to savor with a fine cheese or light poultry or perhaps a delicately spiced dish of marrow beans and braised leeks.
Tasting Notes
Pale yellow color with light gold highlights; bright floral notes of honeysuckle, lilac and orange blossom bring to mind a perfumed spring garden at dusk. Ripe peach, melon and yellow apple combine with citrus zest and spearmint on the palate. The 2009 Muscat is a brilliant apéritif and a superb complement to grilled sea bass, assorted dim sum, charcuterie, Asian cuisine or fried chicken with pan gravy.
Ca’ del Solo is our estate vineyard on the outskirts of Soledad. We farm muscat (and other varieties) using Biodynamic® practice, with the belief that this discipline is well suited to restoring vital life-forces to our soil and promoting the farm as something akin to a self-sustaining organism. Our winemaking practice is exceptionally light-handed, with minimal intervention and manipulation - unplugged or "acoustic." The 2009 vintage expresses the beautiful crystalline mineral aspect of the Monterey soils, musky, melony aromatics, clean acidity and a just off-dry finish.
