While 2006 and 2007 brought botrytis to the Beeswax Vineyard in Arroyo Seco, 2008 did not bless us with noble rot. But it did give us wondrous grenache blanc and roussanne, and we realized we could contrive to produce a decadent, single-vineyard dessert wine by air-drying the fruit on vineyard mats for three weeks before crush and fermentation at the winery.

The result, Vinferno, is rich, fragrant, and honeyed, with apple, pear, and quince fruit aligned with apricots, hazelnuts, and a hint of lavender honeycomb. Its finish seems to last an eternity. This wickedly great cuvée will transport you to a realm beyond your wildest imaginings.
