The great white Cigare is not unlike Melville’s great white whale; rarely seen, difficult to catch - yet its name is legend! Luckily when the Cigare is from Bonny Doon it is much easier to track down and enjoy. Since 2003, we have produced this wondrous blend of roussanne and grenache blanc in homage to the great white Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines of Southern France. It is a rich, savory wine with greater power and extract than one typically finds at Bonny Doon. A single vineyard cuvée is sure to lift your palate awareness to new heights!
Winemaker Notes:
This wine is sturdy in pome fruit - Asian pear and quince, with suggestions of honeydew, lime blossom, cardamom and liliac. Beautifully balanced, with distinctive notes of minerals on the mid-palate, the 2008 vintage has a silky texture, evocative flavors and a long, satisfying finish.
