NGK's Iridium IX spark plug is an excellent upgrade for heavily tracked and forced induction engines needing a durable plug with a tip that maintains a proper operating temperature. The temperature range of these plugs is suggested for modified BMW engines with increased compression, aggressive ignition and cam timing, and/or forced induction. Getting the correct temperature range plug will maintain a temperature high enough to prevent fouling yet be cool enough to prevent pre-ignition. While there are many things that can cause pre-ignition, selecting a spark plug in the proper heat range will ensure that the spark plug itself is not a hot spot source in the combustion chamber.
